Popular Towns We Serve in Cape May County
Cape May County is a peninsula at the bottom of New Jersey, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Delaware Bay on the other. Five barrier islands line the ocean side, and that is where the resort towns are. You find Victorian streets at the southern tip and blocks of shore rentals farther north. At the 2020 census, 58.8% of the county's homes were counted as vacant. Most of those are second homes waiting for summer.
The mainland is a quieter story. Upper, Dennis, Middle and Lower townships hold year-round neighborhoods, the county seat at Cape May Court House, and bayside spots like Villas. The ocean keeps winters milder here than inland, but the salt and wind never let up. We handle exterior painting for island rentals and old wood homes, and interior painting for families who live here all year. Cabinet painting, deck staining and siding painting round out the work.
Painting Needs Across Cape May County
Rentals on a tight calendar
The county's summer population can top 750,000, so a lot of homes here earn their keep as weekly rentals. Owners want the work done before the first guests arrive. We schedule exterior painting and deck staining for the spring, and inside we can move room by room so a unit is ready on time. Scuffed walls, chipped trim and worn stair rails get fixed before check-in day.
Old wood on the island resort streets
Many of the island towns grew up as resorts more than a century ago, and plenty of homes still wear original wood siding and trim. Old wood with many coats of paint needs careful scraping, sanding and priming. Rushing it leads to peeling within a season or two. We take the time on prep, then lay down paint suited to the ocean air.
Bayside homes on the Delaware Bay
On the west side of the peninsula, places like Villas and North Cape May face Delaware Bay. Homes there take wind off open water and strong afternoon sun from the west. That is rough on west-facing siding, doors and decks, which tend to fade and dry out first. We use fade-resistant paint and stain, and we check those sides closely when we plan the job.
Year-round homes on the mainland
Around Cape May Court House, Rio Grande and the rest of the mainland, many families live in their homes all year. Those houses need the everyday work: fresh color in living rooms and bedrooms, drywall repair, wallpaper removal and kitchen cabinet painting. Outside, we paint garage doors, gutters and sheds, and our epoxy floor coating holds up well on garage floors that see sand tracked in all summer.

Cape May County Painting Questions
Does your crew travel all the way down the peninsula?
Yes. We work across Cape May County, on the barrier islands and on the mainland. That includes the resort towns, the bayside neighborhoods along Delaware Bay and the year-round townships in between. Just tell us where the home is and what you need painted, and we will set up a time to come look at it.
Can you finish before my summer renters arrive?
That is what most shore owners want. The best plan is to reach out in winter or early spring. That gives us time to look at the home, settle on colors and book exterior work for good weather. Interior painting can often fit into the weeks just before the season, since weather does not hold it up.
The winters are mild here. Can you paint outside all year?
Not quite. The ocean does keep this county milder than inland New Jersey, but exterior paint still needs the air and the surface to stay warm enough while it cures. Cold nights and damp mornings can cause problems. We do most outside work from spring through fall and save the coldest months for interior painting, cabinets and drywall repair.
Do I need approval before I paint a home in a historic district?
It depends on the town. Some Cape May County towns have historic districts with their own review rules for outside work, and those rules are not the same everywhere. Check with your town's zoning or historic office before you start. Once you know what applies, we plan our prep, colors and schedule to fit it.
What wears out first on a shore house?
Usually the parts that face the weather head on. Deck boards, railings, window trim and doors on the sunny, windy sides go first. Salt and moisture find any crack or bare spot, and then the paint starts to lift. Catching those spots early with a fresh coat or new stain saves a lot of scraping later.
