Somers Point is the oldest settlement in Atlantic County. Richard Somers built his mansion by Great Egg Harbor Bay between 1720 and 1726, and it is still the oldest house in the county. Near it, the 82 acre Bay Front Historic District keeps the feel of the city's maritime 1800s. Most homes came much later, though. About 44% of the city's housing was built from the 1940s through the 1960s, and the neighborhoods west of Shore Road hold the largest share of houses. Water wraps the city on three sides, from the bay to the Great Egg Harbor River and Patcong Creek, so moisture and salt shape every exterior paint job here.

We provide interior and exterior painting throughout Somers Point. That covers single-family homes, townhomes and condos, inside and out. We paint rooms, trim and cabinets, repair drywall, and on the outside we handle siding, trim, doors, garage doors and deck staining for homes near the bay.

Painting Needs in Somers Point

Salt air on Bay Avenue and Broadway

Homes close to the bay get salt spray, strong sun and wind. Paint chalks faster and metal rusts sooner. We wash off salt before painting, spot prime any rust on railings and hardware, and use exterior coatings made for coastal exposure. Bottom edges of trim and doors get extra attention because that is where water sits.

Raised homes and long stair runs

Since Sandy, the city has planned for higher homes near the water, and it expects some historic homes may need to be raised five to six feet. Raised homes have tall foundation walls, long stairs and big landings that all need paint and upkeep. We paint stairs, railings, lattice and trim, and we stain wood decks so they shed water.

Condos and townhomes

Somers Point has many condos and townhomes, often with association rules on exterior work. Inside, we paint full units quickly and cleanly, which works well for owners getting ready to sell or rent. We cover floors and furniture, fill holes, and leave rooms ready to move into. For exterior work, we follow your association's approved colors.

Somers Point Painting Questions

How do you protect paint from salt air in Somers Point?

Prep and product choice make the biggest difference. We clean salt and grime off the surface, fix bare spots and rust, caulk gaps, and use paint and primer made for coastal homes. We also suggest regular rinsing of trim and doors to keep salt from building up.

Do you paint condos and townhomes?

Yes. We paint interiors of condos and townhomes all the time. For exterior work, we follow your association's color and approval rules. We can work around your schedule if you are getting a unit ready for a sale or a new tenant.

Can you stain my deck and paint the stairs on my raised home?

Yes. Raised homes have a lot of exposed wood on decks, stairs and landings. We clean and stain decks, paint railings and stair stringers, and finish lattice and foundation trim so the whole exterior looks consistent. We also check for loose boards or rails as we go and point them out to you.

When is the best time of year to paint the outside of a home near Great Egg Harbor Bay?

Spring and early fall give us the best drying weather by the bay. Air off the water keeps mornings damp, so we start once the dew burns off and stop before evening moisture settles. Summer heat can make paint dry too fast on sunny walls, and winter cold slows curing. If your home sits on Bay Avenue or Broadway, we also check the tide and wind forecast before setting a start date.

My Somers Point house was built in the 1950s. How do you prep the old siding and trim?

About 44% of the homes in the city went up between the 1940s and 1960s, so we see this a lot. We check the siding for loose, chalky or peeling paint and scrape it back to a solid edge. Bare wood gets sanded and primed. Old caulk at windows and corner boards usually needs to be cut out and replaced. Then we apply two coats of exterior paint over the whole surface, not just the patches.

What happens when you come out for an estimate in Somers Point?

One of us walks the whole property with you. Outside, we look at every side of the house, since walls facing the bay or the river usually wear faster than the street side. We check trim, doors, railings and any deck for soft wood and rust. Inside, we measure the rooms and note any drywall repair. You get a written estimate that lists each surface and the products we plan to use.
